“You ain’t see nothing yet!” New Indio Mayor Elaine Holmes looks toward another banner year for the city of festivals

Mayor Holmes looked forward to more progress in 2026 including the opening of new golf course clubhouse, police headquarters, and more new businesses.

New Indio Mayor Elaine Holmes takes the oath of office on Wednesday.

At the first meeting in the new City Hall, the position of Mayor transferred from Glenn Miller to Elaine Holmes and Waymond Fermon became Mayor Pro Tem.

In her first address as mayor, she acknowledged the huge strides accomplished under the administration of the outgoing mayor, Glenn Miller, especially in just the past year including the opening of the new library and City Hall buildings, the inaugural Asada Fest in May, and dozens of ribbon cuttings for new businesses.

“You ain’t seen nothing yet!” Holmes said. She said next year the clubhouse at The Lights at Indio golf course is set to open as well as more new businesses and the groundbreaking for the new $45 million Indio Police Department headquarters.

The new clubhouse was on the agenda later in the meeting. Councilmembers voted to continue the month-to-month lease for temporary mobile clubhouse units as delays push back the opening.

The clubhouse was set to open midway through this year, but issues with utility installation have forced the project to be delayed into next year.

Holmes represents District 3, the northeast and southeast parts of the city. This is not her first time as mayor, she previously served in 2013, 2017, and 2021.
