Nomination period opens for three Indio council seats
Candidates are lining up for Indio’s District 2, 3 and 4 council races in the Nov. 3 election, including Mayor Elaine Holmes’ bid for another term.
Indio voters will decide three City Council seats in the Nov. 3 general municipal election, covering districts 2, 3 and 4.
The nomination filing period opened this month and runs through Aug. 7. Check which district you live in using the city’s online map tool.
In District 3, Mayor Elaine Holmes has filed to seek re-election. Holmes was first elected to the council in 2010 and has since won re-election in 2014, 2018 and 2022.
In District 2, Mayor Pro Tem Waymond Fermon is seeking re-election against Gloria Hernandez. Fermon was first elected in 2018.
In District 4, Jonathan Becerra and Felipe Ortiz have filed to run for the seat, both seeking to replace Oscar Ortiz.
Becerra grew up in District 4, interned at Indio City Hall as a teenager and has served on the Desert Recreation District board since 2020.
Ortiz is a Marine Corps veteran who serves as vice chair of the Indio Planning Commission and as a trustee for the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District.
All three seats carry four-year terms. Candidates must be registered voters who reside in the district they seek to represent, U.S. citizens and at least 18 years old.
