Multifamily townhomes approved by Planning Commission
The project’s developer said that although the three-bedroom units are considered market rate housing, they were specifically designed with multi-generational families in mind.

The Indio Planning Commission unanimously approved the Jackson Townhomes project Wednesday night, greenlighting a development aimed at easing the city’s housing affordability crisis with family-focused units.
The project features nine units within three two-story buildings to be built on 1.2 acres of vacant land south of Avenue 44 and east of Jackson Street.
Developer Tony Psarras of Thyra Corp. told commissioners that though the three-bedroom, three-bathroom units are considered market rate housing, they were specifically designed with multi-generational families in mind.
“It’s gotten to the point where the affordability is just really hard for the working man,” Psarras said. “That’s why these particular units are a little bit larger than normal to maybe accommodate grandma, grandpa, their kids and grandkids.”
Psarras also touted the location near a bus stop and near other new construction and new businesses.
The commission approved the project with several conditions, including the addition of more shade trees, a perimeter wall, dedication of the ultimate right-of-way on both Jackson Street and Avenue 44, and other infrastructure improvements.
