Indio Golf Course clubhouse opening pushed back at least another month
“The restaurant’s not ready to go. The pro shop’s not ready. The front entrance is not ready. So we would not be opening until that’s all ready to go,” a city staff member said Tuesday.

Golfers at The Lights at Indio Golf Course will have to wait at least another month before they can use the new clubhouse, as city officials on Tuesday reported ongoing delays with utility connections and entrance construction.
The clubhouse was supposed to open a year ago, but in October, officials said they were eyeing an opening in January as infrastructure hurdles have continued to delay the project’s completion.
“We are not going to open…until it’s ready, whether we have power or not,” a city representative said during Tuesday’s meeting of the Indio Community Services Commission. “The restaurant’s not ready to go. The pro shop’s not ready. The front entrance is not ready. So we would not be opening until that’s all ready to go.”
Staff informed the commission that completing the front entrance will take another four to six weeks. In addition, officials stated they are still not certain if “full power” from Imperial Irrigation District (IID) is a go yet.
The delay is the latest chapter in a long-running struggle to coordinate with IID. The project faced an $830,000 change order last fall after developers discovered that underground electrical conduits and vaults did not align with original plans. The discovery forced expensive rerouting and trenching along Avenue 42 and Jackson Street to fix the utility clash.
Commissioners expressed a desire for more consistent communication, noting that residents often miss social media updates regarding the facility’s status. The commission requested that the city provide direct email notifications once a firm date for a ribbon-cutting ceremony is finally established.
The uncertainty comes as the city enters the peak of festival season. Commissioners advised residents to plan for extra travel time in the area as both the clubhouse construction and increased seasonal traffic continue to impact the North Side.
